In 1983, Kathy
Klaus, President of Educo International Inc., discovered the original bead and wire mazes
created by Australian educator George Valentine. Captivated by the mazes
design and manipulative play possibilities, she acquired a license to manufacture and
distribute the original collection. The Canadian-owned Educo has since designed over
70 innovative models, including a line of table activity centers for public play areas and
commercial settings.
Parents and
professionals agree that the manipulative three-dimensional mazes help develop early
learning skills and encourage cooperative play. When the Original Super Maze was
introduced to medical and commercial waiting rooms, homes, special needs classrooms, and
day care centers across North America, it quickly captured the imagination of children and
parents. In 1994 the Super Maze was inducted into the Parenting Toy Hall of Fame.
Educo bead and wire
mazes are carefully crafted and assembled by hand in a factory in Sherwood Park, Alberta,
Canada. Each product is tested to ensure it exceeds industry standards for safety
and durability. Educo mazes have received international recognition and won over 40
awards for their educational play value, superior quality and beautiful innovative
designs.
In 2000, Educo
introduced two new product lines to compliment its line of bead and wire mazes.
Educo Basics is a line of classic learning and play toys in wood for the classroom,
daycare center or home. Cookies is a collection of soft-bodied play dolls with
finely crafted garments presented in pinewood play boxes a first in the doll
industry.
